There is definitely something to be said for being able to create a new or risky genre of music, and if you can do that, go for it! But for most of us, it is better, particularly if you are just starting out, to stick to one style of music, you want to stick to the genre, but enhance it, you want your beats to be better than anyone else’s!

So, try to master your own genre. Because if you can master your genre, then you will have the skills to take risks with beats from other genres and try to create a musical sound all of your own!

With the modern technology advancements, aspiring and established musicians have been discovering that there are simple, cheap and effective ways to create great beats.

When you are wanting to make your own beats you have to be able to understand and be able to link baseline to audio loops and to midi drum patterns. All beat makers are different, but they all should possess these basic fundamental elements that you need to make your own beats.

Your bass line is the foundation of the entire sound and it is what will create the mood of your beat. Most Beat Makers will start with creating the bass line before you move onto creating any other sounds.

It is ideal to get a great bass line and create it into a repeating loop, creating a really good foundation to build the rest of your sound from.

The audio loop is used as the foundation of hip hop and rap, you can create great loops out of sounds and instruments and then stretch, compress or place a variety of effects over this sound to change the feel, tone or mood. Once you have your first loop, then you can decide if you want to build on it to create a second loop.

The final element is the midi drum patterns. To enhance your beat, you can create multiple midi drum patterns that are active all at once, just make sure they are working together, instead of against each other.

When you create this beat you will find that the drum sounds are typically a pattern of midi notes, which can be placed individually or created into a simple repeating loop and placed over your bass line.

So when you are making your own beats, make sure that you have a really good bass-line which creates the mood and sound that you want for your beat. And then you can build on top of that with your midi drum patterns and your audio loops.

With these three elements in place, you can really get a great sound by making your own beats!
