- Ok, so you are at your computer with your music software in front of you. Have a look and see if you can figure out how many tracks are available for recording? Can you find it? It should be somewhere between four and thirty two.
- Select the first track so that you have a nice clean slate to start getting creative with. Now, you need to generate a base line with your drum machine software. And now it is time to play.
- When you are ready to create a drum beat, you should give yourself plenty of time to play; especially if you have never done this before. Get familiar with all the different sounds of the drums and percussion until you have created a drum beat that lasts about four seconds.
- Next, you should loop the sound and then you have the heart of your beat. The drum beat is the foundation of your sound and sets up the mood of the entire piece of music. So you need to make sure it is what you need because everything else builds on top of this loop.
- So now that you have a drum beat, you can get to work and make beats on computer. It is time to build on your sound, and to do this you can use a variety of different options. For example, you can record vocals straight onto your music software or use synthesizer software to make different riffs with different instruments that you can build on your drum beats with.
- Make sure you turn off your first track though or you will record straight over your carefully selected drum beat!
- Use your software, synthesizer or recording application to create the sounds that you will lay over the top, each in a different track on your music application. This is important so that you can mix them together and select the volume of each.
Bonus Tip 1.
Some musicians will record the same riff or sound in over one track to add some real depth and layering in the final piece.
Bonus Tip 2.
You can add some creative flair by doing the same riff in two or three different instruments and layer them over the top to create a chorus sound!

Good luck!
